Prioritising Our People
At Jawala, we’re dedicated to building a strong and sustainable workforce by empowering our team members with essential knowledge and skills while ensuring their good health and safety.
Continuous Learning and Skill Development
Whether it’s hands-on training at work, advanced instruction at professional institutions here in Malaysia, or even opportunities abroad, we strive to equip our local staff with essential technical and managerial skills for personal and professional growth.
Equality
We ensure that all employees in the same job role enjoy equal rights and opportunities, regardless of race or religion, creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
Peace of Mind
We offer comprehensive insurance coverage to safeguard our employees and address any third-party liability.
We understand that a supportive environment extends beyond the workplace, so we’ve established sufficient housing options and medical facilities, including an on-site clinic, to meet our employees’ needs and make their well-being a top priority.
Safety
Our Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) committee works tirelessly to raise safety awareness and offer training that helps protect everyone. Any incidents are promptly reported to the OSH committee, so we can take swift action to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all.
Education
We’re proud to partner with the Education Department to establish educational institutions. Training that covers both technical and nontechnical skills are also provided to help our team stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends. To further enhance the quality of education within our community, we’ve also adopted a local school (SK SImatuoh), and contribute to the improvement of its infrastructure to create a safer and more conducive learning environment.
Benefits
We regularly review our compensation and benefits programme to ensure it remains competitive and meets the evolving needs of our team members.

Strengthening Communities
We are dedicated to promoting the well-being of our community and recognise our responsibility to give back in ways that create a positive impact. As part of our community development efforts within and around the Licensed Area, Jawala provides employment opportunities to approximately 78 local residents from the Sapulut and Nabawan Districts of Sabah. Beyond employment, we also actively connect with our local communities through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to understand and address their needs.
Our CSR activities include:
- Donating to 120 families in the nearby villages of Kampung Salung, Kampung Sinikaluan and Kampung Tataluan in the vicinity of our plantation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Donating 2,500 full personal protective suits (PPE) to the Sabah State Government for use by front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Providing timber and building materials to help three families rebuild their homes after they were destroyed in a fire.
