A variety of restoration activities have been carried out to safeguard these conservation areas: re-brushed and re-demarcated the areas.

We’ve also taken extra steps to preserve delicate ecosystems, like creating buffer zones around Rafflesia sites and setting up new water catchment areas.

In addition, our workers are educated on how to deal with any presence of listed species, and are required to exercise caution when operating near HCV areas to avoid harming listed species.

These efforts reflect our thoughtful approach to keeping these natural habitats healthy for the long term.

Environmental Impact Assessment & Mitigation

To ensure our environment thrives for future generations, we strictly adhere to the guidelines set out in our Forest Management Plan, Sustainable Forest Management License Agreement (SFMLA), and the Sabah Timber Legality Standard.

The following practices are part and parcel of our daily work in our effort to sustain the forest as a long-term valuable and renewable resource:

  • Undertake precautions to protect the forest from fire, encroachment and poaching.
  • Ensure the planting, regeneration, harvesting, and silvicultural treatment of remaining trees, as well as overall forest protection.
  • Observe the rules within the riparian reserve.
  • Acknowledge the forest’s capacity limits to produce a sustainable flow of products through scheduled replanting.
  • Set clear goals and actions for managing the Commercial Class II Forest Reserves in a way that is both ecologically sustainable and economically viable.
  • Focus on all aspects of forest management, including silvicultural treatments and enrichment planting.
  • Conduct Environmental Impact Assessment during planning process.
  • Minimise environmental impact through reduced impact logging and extraction of logs.
