Research & Development
Research & Development
Research and Development (R&D) is central to our success, and we’re proud of the strides we’ve made in this area. One of our most exciting
initiatives is the Jawala-UMS Forestry Living Lab, which was launched in January 2023. It’s the first lab of its kind in Malaysia and
represents a significant milestone for us. Fully funded by Jawala, this lab is a key part of our ongoing commitment to innovation in forestry
and conservation.
Our collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) focuses on five key areas:

and techniques

performance

We also have the privilege of working with Kyoto University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences to explore the genetics of Laran trees, the creation of wildlife corridors, and carbon-related projects — all of which are aimed at supporting sustainable practices and enhancing biodiversity.

In addition to our partnership with UMS, we’ve been actively engaging in R&D with our customers since 2020, focusing on the development of products from planted Laran and Albizia species. This collaboration has already resulted in the creation of several new products, such as Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), combi plywood, thick and thin panels, door jambs, and flooring. These products have been rigorously tested and verified by research institutions to ensure they meet high standards, including Japan Agricultural Standards (JAS).
